The statistics were recently unveiled by the
regional Tanroads manager, Eng Isack Mwanawima, while presenting a
report before the regional road board.
In the report, Eng Mwanawima said the collections were for the period starting from December 2013 to May 31 this year.
According to him a total of 49,385 vehicles passed
through Kibiti-Lindi highway out of which 10,248 flouted road rules by
multiplying the weight up to about 5 percent.
The manager reiterated that the collections were
for the third and fourth quarters of the 2013/2014 financial year
garnered through Nangurukuru and Mingoyo Weigh bridges located in the
municipality.
He said despite halting operations of Mingoyo
Weigh Bridge for more than two months (from March 8 to May 25) following
its breakdown, the collections superseded those of the previous six
months.
“We are still making arrangements to repair our
mobile weigh bridge that was broken down since in the previous financial
year, but was not allocated funds for its repair…its repair will be
included in the 2014/2015 financial year budget,” said Eng Mwanawima.
For their part, road board members commended the agency for a job well done.
